The laboratory of Dr. Catherine Smith at UCSF is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to join our leukemia research program. The Smith Lab is focused on the study of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), treatment resistance and the development of novel therapeutics in treatment-refractory human leukemia. We utilize genomic, biochemical, and unbiased in vitro screening techniques in a “bedside to bench and back” approach to study cancer drug resistance. Model systems include cell lines, induced pluripotent stem cells, primary AML patient samples from patients treated on standard and investigational therapies and xenograft models. The postdoctoral fellow will interact and collaborate closely with other laboratory-based scientists and computational biologists across the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center and will be involved in a variety of cellular and animal-based studies of cancer signaling, drug resistance and testing of novel therapeutics.

Required Qualifications: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD Candidates with solid background in molecular biology, cancer biology, cell signaling and an interest in translational research are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have demonstrated research productivity during their MD, PhD, or MD/PhD period and have significant experience in standard laboratory techniques (including flow cytometry, tissue culture, PCR, western blots, etc.). Basic computational skills to analyze and interpret RNA sequencing and multi-dimensional flow cytometry data is encouraged. Experience with murine handling, including pre-clinical trials is a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Candidate should have strong organizational skills, including the ability to handle a variety of tasks, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach. Candidates should be team-oriented with demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
