Position Summary
NYU Shanghai is looking for several short-term contracted Fellows, Student Life for the Go Local program (August to December, 2021).
The Fellows will engage with a team of innovators working in higher education, providing critical support to undergraduates during an unprecedented time while navigating a new and transient learning environment. We welcome those who have an interest in supporting students’ personal growth through structured and intentional learning opportunities, fostering community building, and cultivating inter-connectedness among students, staff and faculty. The Fellows will serve as a resource and advisor to a cohort of students, enforcing university community standards, and assisting with daily crisis response coverage.
The Fellows will support different teams under Student Life as shown below. Please read through each team’s description and state your team preference in your cover letter
1. Career Development Center (CDC)
The CDC Fellows provide career services to support NYU Shanghai go local students career development from offering walk-in services, operating marketing and communication channels, supporting CDC events, delivering basic workshops and any other work based on go-local program requirements.
2. Housing and Residential Life
The Housing and Residential Life Fellows will work with the Housing and Residential Life team providing administrative support to various student housing projects, advising student leaders, and planning residential programs and services to meet student needs. This role will assist team members with various on-going projects.
3. New Student and Diversity Programs
The New Student Fellows will be responsible for assisting the NYU Shanghai New Student and Diversity Programs team to support successful transition of all new undergraduate students to NYU Shanghai. Fellows' responsibilities include but are not limited to co-coordinating orientation programs, advising first year and transfer go local students, and implementing extra-curricular programs to specifically support first year students' college success. This position may be asked to support diversity programs if needed. Other administrative responsibilities may be assigned to this role.
4. Student Involvement
The Student Involvement Fellows are responsible for assisting the design, implementation and assessment of the different student engagement and leadership programs. The fellows also support initiatives, projects, and programs from different student organizations such as student government, youth league, officially recognized student clubs, DSC service leaders, etc. Additionally, these fellows shall perform other administrative responsibilities and tasks assigned by the supervisor. Frequent evening and weekend work may be required.
Qualifications
Required Education
● Bachelor’s Degree or above.
Required Experience
● Relevant working experience in international higher education is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Proficiency in English and Mandarin;
● Strong service orientation and teamwork spirit;
● Good project management skills (organized, systematic, and time-bound);
● Strong verbal and written communication skills;
● Willingness to learn and problem-solving skills;
● Given the changing nature of the current situation, a strong applicant should demonstrate a high level of responsibility, flexibility, and exceptional organization and time management skills.
