We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with appropriate skills in molecular and cell biology to work in the area of trypanosomatid molecular biology. The project is funded by The Wellcome Trust and a major goal is to understand virulence mechanisms in African trypanosomes (see http://www.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/groups/david-horn).
The post is available full-time for 3 years from Oct 2015 and salary will depend on experience, but will be up to £37,394.
Main duties and responsibilities
The person appointed will pursue a research project involving predominantly molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry techniques. They will be expected to work independently, to contribute to the teaching/training of other staff/Ph.D. students, to general laboratory duties and to writing reports and preparing and writing manuscripts for publication. They will also be expected to contribute to the life of the Department and College.
Person Specification
Essential:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant subject
- Several years’ experience contributing to molecular biology projects in the laboratory
- Computer and data processing skills
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience with cell culture
- Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Desirable:
- Experience with category two pathogens
