Description: The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.RAMESH NARAYANAN. We seek two highly motivated and talented Post-Doctoral Fellows in the area of medicinal chemistry to join our Translational Cancer Drug Discovery group in the Department of Medicine. The department is seeking outstanding candidates who possess a strong background in medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, or related areas that involve the design and synthesis of biologically active small molecules. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemistry or related field and demonstrate the ability to independently perform synthetic chemistry of high quality and confirm structure of molecules. Postdoctoral research experience that has an emphasis on organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, or drug discovery is preferred. The ideal candidate will engage in collaborative basic research with pharmacologists in the department of medicine, center for cancer drug discovery. Individuals will closely interact with pharmacology and preclinical scientists to synthesize new molecules. The candidate should have immense ability to provide new ideas to improve molecules and should have the ability to understand the pharmacology data and to deduce structure activity relationship. Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following: Design and execute synthesis schemes to develop small molecules, develop new ideas to create new scaffold, analyze synthesized molecules using Mass Spectrometry and NMR. Experience in analytical methods is preferable. Other responsibilities include preparing reports and communicating accurate information in a timely manner. Additional responsibilities include identifying, communicating, and implementing new ideas towards discovery of novel therapeutic targets.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in medicinal or organic chemistry with experience in small molecule synthesis and performing complex chemical synthesis reactions. Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to succeed in a collaborative team environment are necessary.

Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on the prevailing wage for postdoctoral research trainees set by the U.S. Department of Labor.
