The Position
The partnership with excellent academic mentors is an important aspect of our postdoctoral fellowship program. Your academic mentor will be Prof. Dr. h.c. L. F. Tietze at the University of Göttingen in Germany. Prof. Tietze’s group focus is on synthetic organic chemistry as well as biomolecular and medicinal chemistry (http://www.tietze.chemie.uni-goettingen.de/index.php). Specifically relevant for this postdoc fellowship is the fundamental research done in Göttingen on developing highly potent new cytostatics. As a Roche Postdoctoral Fellow you will be performing research in Göttingen, Basel and Penzberg around potent cytostatics and their conjugates with antibodies. You may expect research related to multi-step organic synthesis of complex small molecules in Göttingen and Basel as well as antibody conjugation, purification and cellular assays in Penzberg. 
Göttingen is a lovely city of about 120,000 inhabitants in the center of Germany close to the Harz Mountains with excellent train connections. Its university is one of the best in Germany and moreover several famous Max Planck Institutes are situated in this town.
Roche at Penzberg, near Munich, employs more than 5,000 people. The site is one of the largest biotechnology centers in Europe and the only Roche site with research, development and production for both Pharmaceuticals and Diagnostics under one roof. 
In this position you will:

• Synthesize complex cytostatic molecules
• Explore the linker and conjugation chemistry needed for antibody conjugation and its impact on the cytotoxicity of the products
• Construct a set of antibody drug conjugates for evaluation in cellular assays
• Evaluate antibody drug conjugates in cellular assays
• This position is initially limited to two years; with work packages in Basel, Göttingen and Penzberg envisaged.

You have a PhD in Chemistry; preferably with a focus on the synthesis of complex organic molecules. You are ready to engage in research activities with potent cytostatic drugs and are keen on learning about ADCs and their biochemistry. You are happy to move frequently, and to collaborate with colleagues from several sites, both in academia and industry. Additionally, you have:

• Proven skills in the synthesis of complex organic molecules in small amounts
• A good publication track record
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English to proactively and independently document the progress of the project
• Knowledge of German or willingness to learn German is a plus
