Project Overview:
Part of the FM research agenda involves the development of an integrated short-, medium- and long-term microsimulation capability of mobility and related urban systems: SimMobility. This particular postdoc position focuses on the long-term decisions of firms, related to the supply chain (i.e. demand for commodities generation, interactions with suppliers, vehicles fleet ownership). This work will involve relevant long-term model design and development under the activity-based behavioural modelling paradigm, with attention to implications for the medium and short term time-frames (e.g., urban freight and logistics modelling).
Job Description:
•Develop a full understanding of the state of the art of firm behaviours' dynamics.
•Develop a full understanding of the Singaporean context in terms of freight generation and the data needs for modelling within SimMobility; extend this context to a generalizable framework.
•Participate in data collection design and supervision.
•Participate in the modelling design process and in the implementation of the designed framework within the SimMobility simulation platform.
•Monitor the progress of the project and supervise students, regularly meet with PIs, and disseminate new findings in journals/conferences.
Requirements:
•PhD in economics, econometrics, mathematics, planning, transportation or a related field.
•Knowledge/past experience in urban economics, discrete choice models, integrated urban modelling, urban transportation, and/or freight and logistics research and modelling is also expected.
The position will be based at the SMART FM Offices on the new campus of the National University of Singapore (NUS), with the possibility of travelling to MIT (for up to a few months) as part of the international collaboration. The postdoctoral associate will work with an integrated team of faculty, researchers and students from MIT and Singaporean University partners, including: Prof. Moshe Ben-Akiva, MIT; Prof. Christopher Zegras, MIT; Prof. Joseph Ferreira, MIT; Dr. Francisco Pereira, SMART; Prof. Vittorio Marzano, UNINA; and Prof. Lynette Cheah, SUTD.
