Job Description
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).
Microbial communities are ubiquitously found in nature, from soil to the human gut, and have direct implications for the environment, human health and biotechnology. Patil group at EMBL-Heidelberg is looking for a post-doctoral researcher to work in a project aimed at discovering metabolic interactions in complex microbial communities relevant for human health. The main tasks will include integrative analysis of different omics datasets (metagenomics, meta-transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) and metabolic flux modeling. The candidate will work in close collaboration with experimental biologists and the team will have access to the state of the art experimental and computational infrastructure.
Qualifications and Experience:
The candidate should have a PhD degree in computational biology, systems biology or computer science. Experience with (meta/)-genomics data analysis and / or metabolic modeling is desirable. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and have excellent scientific skills. S/he should have good communication skills in English and an open, proactive personality to work in a team of young international researchers.
