Research Associate in Simulations of Molecular Interactions with Graphene-Related Materials
The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,699 – £39,523 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
The Research Associate will work with Professor Xiao Guo in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. The project is targeted at the understanding of molecular interactions with surfaces, interfaces and specific functional groups of few-layered graphenes and other layered materials. The postholder will be required to undertake research involving the simulations of fundamental binding and diffusion of a range of molecules in graphene-related and metal/metal-oxide doped materials and nanostructures.
The appointment is funded by the EU for 24 months in the first instance and is available from 1st April 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The successful candidate will have a PhD degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science. Experience in materials simulations, particularly involving first-principles and molecular dynamic techniques is essential. Candidates must also demonstrate a clear understanding of molecular interactions with nanostructures and materials science, and knowledge of a wide range of spectroscopic, microstructural and thermochemical characteristics of such structures, and related characterisation techniques.
Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6 (salary £28,621 – £30,180 p.a. including London Allowance of £2,834 p.a.) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
