Georgetown Univ. Medical Center has made a major commitment to metabolomics as a critical component to our systems biology and systems medicine initiatives. A funded position is now available through the Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology in our program for a metabolomics postdoctoral position. An important focus is on stress signal transduction and events at the metabolomics level. The position also will involve development of molecular markers for injury responses (septic shock and trauma) and disease processes such as radiation injury, cancer, and exposure to endotoxins. There is also an additional focus on microbiome metabolism. Our mass spectrometry facility (http://lombardi.georgetown.edu/research/sharedresources/pmsr/index.html) has assembled state-of-art instrumentation for metabolomics and is a Waters Center of Innovation (http://www.waters.com/waters/nav.htm?locale=en_US&cid=10176245 ). This metabolomics program is funded to carry out a variety of studies in animal models, patient samples, and the recruit will have opportunities to participate in and build on these projects. Experience in mass spectrometry is required, and background in related areas, such as analytical chemistry, biochemistry, and/or bioinformatics, will also be taken into consideration and is strongly preferred.
