Job Description

The Baliga lab at the Institute for Systems Biology has two Postdoctoral Fellow positions available:

Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Scientist: The Baliga and Price labs of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, WA are seeking a qualified Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Scientist for a joint interdisciplinary research position for integrated metabolic and gene regulatory network modeling. This joint position will work across two across two research groups that use a systems approach to characterize biological complexity. This position will work on a research project directed by Dr. Nitin Baliga and Dr. Nathan Price to develop new model types that build upon leading efforts in gene regulatory (Baliga) and integrated metabolic (Price) modeling. The system to be studied is Algae, with special focus on using a model-driven approach to guide cellular engineering towards enhanced fuel production. Importantly, this position will also involve collaboration with Sapphire Energy, meaning that the science developed here can be leveraged to affect real-world problems in a relatively short time frame. A key aspect of the project will include combining information from multiple levels such as genes, proteins, whole cells, and natural forces to gain a clear understanding of the specific inputs and processes that lead to specific system behaviors.

Postdoctoral Fellow: This position will be part of a research group that is using a systems approach to characterize biological complexity. The individual will work on a research project directed by Dr. Nitin Baliga to evaluate models of biological systems ranging from single cells to communities of multiple organisms. A key aspect will include combining information from multiple levels such as genes, proteins, whole cells, and natural forces to gain a clear understanding of how environmental inputs lead to specific system behaviors.

Founded in 2000 in Seattle, Washington, ISB's goal is to unravel the mysteries of cellular networks and identify strategies that will usher in a new era of P4 Medicine (predictive, preventive, participatory and personalized medicine).
