The Farquhar lab is seeking a broadly trained, highly motivated and innovative postdoctoral scholar to carry out studies on the cell biology of the podocyte or glomerular epithelial cell which plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of the glomerular filtration barrier. Work on the podocyte focuses on understanding the molecular interactions and signaling pathways responsible for maintaining the podocyte’s unique organization into foot processes and filtration slits in health and disease through assembly of cell junctions and cytoskeletal interactions. To investigate these problems we utilize innovative approaches involving a combination of biochemical, morphologic, bioinformatics and proteomic approaches as well as animal models and live cell imaging on cultured cells. Our overall goal is to define the molecular mechanisms and signaling networks that regulate podocyte function and glomerular filtration in health and disease. Ph.D, or M.D. and at least two years of laboratory research experience, strong ommunication skills and ability to work as a team are expected. Expertise is required in 2-3 of the following areas: live cell imaging and use of fluorescent biosensors, protein chemistry, bioinformatics, proteomics, use of animal models, as well as evidence of past productivity.
