Sandia National Laboratories is searching for Postdoctoral Appointees in Experimental/Theoretical Nanophotonics. This full-time, temporary position will be located in our Albuquerque, NM facility. Security clearance is currently not required.

Department Description
The Nanostructure Physics Department conducts original research to establish the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials into microscale and macroscale systems and devices. It is one of eight Departments within the Physical, Chemical, & Nanosciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. Department members perform discovery and use-inspired basic research in support of the DOE/SC Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) and other Sandia programs. CINT is a DOE/Office of Science National User Facility operated jointly by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories with facilities at both Laboratories.

Job Summary
We have two postdoc openings in experimental/theoretical nanophotonics. One of the postdocs will focus on experimental and theoretical integrated quantum optics, and the other will focus on experimental nano-optomechanics. Both positions will involve extensive theory and device design, as well as experimental work.

The positions are at the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), a DOE Nanoscience user facility run by Sandia. Postdocs will have free access to state of the art facilities ( http://cint.sandia.gov ), including clean-room use, nanofabrication, access to MBE-grown III-V samples, and a vast number of electrical/optical characterization techniques. These are truly fantastic opportunities for a postdoc because of the full access to these facilities in one location and the collaborative research environment that extends beyond photonics.

Post Doc Hiring Program
Sandia’s Post-Doctoral Appointee Program is designed to recruit outstanding Ph.D. applicants to assist a line organization in meeting its mission objectives and to provide a professional technical work environment for the employee. The Ph.D. must have been conferred within one to 5 years prior to employment. These assignments are for a one-year period, with the option, at management’s discretion, to serve no more than 5 additional one-year assignments. Extensions of up to six years require employee's manager approval. Six years or greater requires employee's manager and HR VP approval.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Advanced technical degree or significant equivalent experience.
• Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position.
• Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research.
• Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects.
• Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.

Required
• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline, with a strong background in optics, either quantum optics or nonlinear optics, integrated device physics, and clean room experience.
• Successful candidates will also have exhibited innovative research and have a strong publication record during their graduate careers.
